Wood Fence Installation in Palm Beach County, FL

Wood Fence Installation by Pick-It Fence Company

A wood fence is one of the most personal things you can add to your property. It shapes how your yard feels, defines your space, and — if it’s built right — stands up to decades of South Florida sun, rain, and humidity without giving you grief. Pick-It Fence Company has been installing wood fences throughout Palm Beach County since 1990. We have built privacy fences for Boca Raton homeowners with strict HOA guidelines, picket fences on half-acre Loxahatchee lots, and shadowbox fences in West Palm Beach backyards where neighbors are close and privacy matters. If you are trying to figure out what type of wood fence is right for your property, we will help you decide — that’s part of what a free estimate is for.

Why Wood Fencing Is Still One of the Most Popular Choices in Palm Beach County

Vinyl and aluminum fences have their place, and we install plenty of both, but wood fences remain consistently popular here for reasons that are easy to understand. Wood is the one fence material you can genuinely customize on-site. Height, spacing, pattern, cap style, gate design — none of it is locked to a manufacturer’s catalog. If you want a six-foot privacy fence with a lattice top and a custom arched gate, we can build it. If you want a classic three-rail picket fence that matches the 1950s character of your neighborhood, we can build that too.

Wood also tends to be more budget-friendly than comparable aluminum or vinyl installations for larger properties, which matters when you are fencing a half-acre lot in Loxahatchee Groves or enclosing a full perimeter in Royal Palm Beach.

That said, wood fencing in South Florida requires the right material choices and proper installation technique. Our team will walk you through those choices during your estimate so you are not left guessing after the fence is already in the ground.

Wood Fence Styles We Install

We install the full range of wood fence styles for residential properties throughout Palm Beach County. Here are the most common:

Privacy and Board-on-Board Wood Fences

Privacy/Board-on-Board

Full-height pickets with overlapping boards for complete visual privacy from the street or neighboring yards. One of our most requested styles.

Wood Shadowbox Fences

Shadowbox

Alternating pickets on both sides of the rail provides solid privacy from straight on while allowing airflow from angles. A great middle ground.

Wood Picket Fence Installation & Repair Services

Picket Fence

The classic. Shorter open-style fence ideal for front yards, garden borders, and properties where boundary definition matters more than screening.

Stockard/Solid Privacy Wood Fence

Stockard/Solid Privacy

Tight side-by-side pickets with no overlap or gap. Maximum privacy, straightforward construction, clean look.

Horizontal Plank Wood Fence

Horizontal Plank

Modern aesthetic with planks running sideways. Very popular right now in contemporary Palm Beach County homes. Available in privacy and semi-privacy spacing.

Louvered Wood Fence

Louvered

Angled pickets that block sightlines while allowing airflow and light. A smart choice for yards where ventilation matters.

Post-and-Rail and Split-Rail Wood Fences

Post & Rail / Split Rail

Open ranch-style fencing — excellent for agricultural lots in Loxahatchee Groves and Westlake where boundary definition is the goal.

Lattice Fence Wood Fence

Lattice Top

A privacy or picket fence with a decorative lattice panel across the top. Adds height and visual interest without feeling imposing.

Custom Wood Fence Designs

Custom Designs

We build custom gates, arched tops, combination styles, and one-off designs on-site. If you have something specific in mind, ask us during your estimate.

Not sure which style is right for your property? That’s a normal place to be. During your free on-site estimate, we’ll look at your lot layout, your HOA requirements (if applicable), and your goals for the fence and we’ll give you an honest recommendation.

What Makes Wood Fencing Different in South Florida

Wood fencing in Palm Beach County faces a specific set of challenges that homeowners who have moved here from other parts of the country are sometimes surprised by. We see the results of shortcuts and wrong material choices every time we’re called in for fence repair jobs. Here is what we tell every customer upfront:

Why Install a Wood Fence with Pick-It Fence Company

Material Selection Matters More Here Than Anywhere

South Florida’s combination of heat, heavy seasonal rain, high humidity, and — in coastal areas like Gulf Stream, Manalapan, and Palm Beach — salt air is hard on wood. Not all lumber is equal. We work with each customer to select the right wood species and treatment level for their specific location and budget. Untreated or undertreated lumber can begin to rot in as little as two to three years in this climate. We don’t cut corners on material selection — it’s the first conversation we have on every job.

Post Depth and Concrete Setting

The most common reason we’re called to repair a fence that another contractor installed is leaning posts. South Florida’s sandy soil does not grip fence posts the way clay-heavy soil in other regions does, and posts that are not set deep enough in proper concrete simply shift over time — especially after a tropical storm or heavy wind event. We bury posts to the correct depth for the fence height and set them in concrete on every installation.

Rail and Board Orientation

Improperly installed horizontal rails are one of the leading causes of wood fence warping in humid climates. When rails are oriented so that moisture can pool on the flat face, they cup and bow — pulling the attached pickets with them. Our crews install rails and boards correctly so water sheds rather than sitting.

Airflow and Ground Clearance

Wood that stays damp rots faster. We maintain proper clearance between the bottom of the fence and the ground surface to allow airflow and prevent moisture wicking — a detail that makes a real difference in how long your fence lasts.

Our Warranty. We Stand Behind Every Fence We Build.

Pick-It Fence Company warrants both our labor and the materials we supply on every wood fence installation. If something fails as a result of our workmanship or a defect in the materials we provided, we will come back and make it right — that is our commitment to every customer we serve.

Common Questions About Wood Fence Installation in Palm Beach County

Do I need a permit to install a wood fence in Palm Beach County?

In most cases, yes. Permit requirements vary by municipality , what’s required in West Palm Beach differs from what’s required in Boca Raton or Loxahatchee Groves. Pick-It Fence handles all permit applications as part of our standard installation process. You will not need to visit the permitting office or figure out the requirements on your own. We handle it.

My HOA has fence rules. Can you still help?

Absolutely. HOA fence guidelines are something we navigate regularly throughout Palm Beach County. During your estimate, let us know which community you’re in and we’ll review the relevant requirements. We prepare and submit HOA fence approval applications on your behalf and spec the job to comply from the start — so there are no surprises after installation.

How long will a wood fence last in South Florida?

With the right material and proper installation, a wood fence in Palm Beach County can last 15 to 20 years or more. The two biggest factors are lumber selection and post setting. Pressure-treated lumber rated for ground contact, properly set in concrete at the correct depth, is the foundation of a long-lasting wood fence in this climate. We’ll walk you through the material options and their expected lifespans during your estimate.

What’s the difference between privacy and shadowbox fencing?

A privacy fence (sometimes called board-on-board or solid privacy) has pickets placed side by side or overlapping so there is no gap — you cannot see through it from any angle. A shadowbox fence has alternating pickets on both sides of the center rail, with a small gap between them. It looks solid from straight on but allows some airflow from angles. Shadowbox is popular because it looks finished from both sides and handles wind a bit better than solid privacy. We can show you examples of both during your estimate.

Can you match an existing fence section that needs to be replaced?

Usually yes, especially if we can see the existing fence during the estimate. We carry or can source a wide range of lumber species, picket profiles, and rail sizes. If you need to replace a section due to storm damage or rot, bring us in for a look and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can match it.

Do you handle wood fence repairs, not just new installations?

Yes. We repair wood fences throughout Palm Beach County — leaning posts, rotted boards, broken rails, damaged gates, and more. Our repair service is available for fences we installed and fences installed by others.
